Sliders can be used to narrow down desired states.
To use the sliders you MUST enable the checkbox to the left of the slider
Then you can use the checkboxes to further limit your results
to enable a checkbox click the grey box and an X will appear to confirm it's selection.
The darker the states on the map are the more it fits your preferences.
To the left of the map you can check your results. The results will change as you
alter your preferences
